Nepal Flash Flood 2026 fundraising appeal from NRNA UK

On Wednesday 26 August 2026 a catastrophic flash flood tore down the Bhote Koshi valley, destroying homes, bridges and livelihoods across Rasuwa, Nuwakot and Dhading. NRNA UK has launched an emergency appeal so that our community in Britain can stand with the families who lost everything.

About the disaster

The disaster began along the Bhote Koshi river in Rasuwa district, close to the Nepal–China border. Timure, Rasuwagadhi and Syabrubesi were among the worst affected, with homes, businesses, roads, bridges and power infrastructure destroyed and a number of people still reported missing.

The floodwaters then moved downstream, putting communities along the Bhote Koshi and Trishuli river systems at further risk, with damage reported across Rasuwa, Nuwakot and Dhading. The Nepal Army, Armed Police Force and Nepal Police were mobilised for search, evacuation and emergency assistance, and the full scale of the loss is still being assessed.

Media coverage

NRNA’s global flood relief effort

This appeal is NRNA UK’s contribution to a worldwide response coordinated by the Non-Resident Nepali Association. The NRNA International Coordination Council has committed Rs 50 million to the Rasuwa–Bhotekoshi flood relief effort, and NRNA teams have been distributing relief materials in the affected districts. Contributions raised in Britain are transferred to the ICC and pooled with support from NRNA national councils around the world.

Candlelight vigil at the Embassy of Nepal

NRNA UK organised a candlelight vigil in association with the Embassy of Nepal, London, in loving memory of those who lost their lives in the Rasuwa flood — to pray for the safe return and wellbeing of those still missing, and for the swift recovery of the injured.
